Doctor’s Orders ~ What we can and can’t do to support Charlotte

Updated: Aug 7, 2018

Charlotte’s Oncology Surgeon called Charlotte that first Saturday after meeting with her and talked with her about how to manage the extra stuff that goes on when someone with her responsibilities and personality type is fighting cancer. This included finding someone to take over health updates to friends & family, organize rides, organize meals etc (the stuff she’s asked me to do). After the lake, I will be sending out a link for all sorts of ways we can help through CareCalendar (thanks Nicole Cox)!

Another thing Dr. Sharon shared was, often, loving friends and family send or bring flowers as a show of support and also to bring beauty & happiness into the home. There are concerns that flowers can harbor fungal spores and place her at a higher risk of infection. So Donny & Charlotte would like to ask please no more flowers, since her Chemo starts today and her immune system will be fragile for the next 20 weeks. Anything that won’t mess with her immune system is welcome and appreciated.

In this conversation with Dr. Sharon she also suggested that Donny & Charlotte plan a special trip following her treatments when the cancer is gone. They had already decided to plan a family trip to Europe in celebration! Dr. Sharon suggested that folks who are really wanting to give something could give towards that family trip. Please know the Rickerts are so very appreciative of everything ~ the prayers, the positivity, the humor, the meals, (eventual) rides, playdates for the girls, everything. Once I get something set up for giving towards their trip, a link will be on the blog's "What Can I Do?" page.
